Learning Design

Practical learning and assessment solutions built around real workplace needs and outcomes.

Effective learning design starts by understanding the outcome — not by deciding what content to put into a course.

VET Skilled looks at what people actually need to know, understand and be able to do, the environment in which that learning will be applied, and the most effective way to develop that capability.

We analyse existing information, training requirements and workplace practices to identify what is essential, what may be missing, where unnecessary duplication or complexity exists, and how the learning can be organised into a clear and logical progression.

This can include developing new learning programs or reviewing and improving existing ones, working with subject matter experts, structuring learning and assessment, mapping learning to workplace outcomes, and determining the most appropriate combination of instruction, demonstration, practice, digital learning and assessment.

Our approach is grounded in a simple principle: learning should make sense to the person undertaking it and have a clear connection to what they need to do.

That means turning complex technical, regulatory or workplace information into learning that is structured, understandable and purposeful — without removing the knowledge or depth people genuinely need.

Digital Learning

Engaging digital learning that turns complex information into clear, practical and accessible learning experiences.

Digital learning should be more than information transferred from a document onto a screen.

VET Skilled designs digital learning around how people actually learn — using appropriate combinations of explanation, imagery, demonstration, scenarios, interaction, narration, questioning and assessment to make information easier to understand and retain.

The starting point is always the learning need. We then select and use technology because it improves the learning experience—not simply because it's available.

We can transform technical information, workplace procedures, training materials and subject matter expertise into structured digital and blended learning suitable for delivery through an LMS or as part of a broader training program.

This includes eLearning development, multimedia learning, visual and scenario-based content, narrated learning, interactive activities and blended solutions that connect online learning with practical workplace application.

A major part of our approach is simplification without oversimplification: removing unnecessary complexity while preserving the knowledge, context and reasoning people need to make informed decisions and perform effectively.

VET Resources

Practical, usable and educationally sound resources designed to achieve the required learning and assessment outcomes.

A training or assessment resource can technically contain all the required information and still be difficult to teach from, difficult to learn from or ineffective at establishing what a person can actually do.

VET Skilled approaches resource development from the perspectives of the learner, trainer and assessor, while maintaining focus on the required vocational outcomes.

We develop and review learning resources, learner guides, activities, assessment tools, practical tasks, knowledge assessments, trainer and assessor resources and supporting documentation.

Particular attention is given to the relationship between what is taught, what the learner is expected to understand or perform, and what the assessment actually establishes.

Assessment should produce meaningful evidence. Questions and tasks should have a reason for being there, be appropriate to the level and nature of the competency being assessed, and allow the learner to demonstrate the required knowledge or capability without unnecessary barriers created by the assessment itself.

This is where your assessment-paper thinking becomes particularly valuable: assessment isn't improved simply by adding more questions, more evidence or more complexity. The better question is whether the assessment method provides the evidence needed to make a sound judgement about competence.

The objective is resources that satisfy their required purpose and work in practice.

LMS Solutions

Practical LMS solutions that simplify the delivery, management and support of learning and training.

An LMS should support learning — not become another obstacle for learners, trainers or administrators.

VET Skilled provides practical support with the selection, setup, implementation, organisation and ongoing use of Learning Management Systems and digital training environments.

That can include structuring courses and learning pathways, configuring enrolment and learner access, integrating digital resources and assessment, managing learner progression and completion, certificates and records, and establishing practical administrative and reporting processes.

But the focus isn't simply on configuring software.

We look at the whole training system: how learners enter it, how they navigate it, how trainers interact with them, how learning and assessment are delivered, how progress is monitored, what information administrators need, and what happens when the learner completes the program.

With hands-on experience developing and managing learning through platforms including Ammonite, Cloud Assess and aXcelerate, VET Skilled can help organisations bridge the gap between the technology and the training it exists to support.

The aim is a system that is straightforward for learners, practical for trainers and manageable for the organisation.

Workplace Capability

Practical training and development solutions that build skills, capability and stronger workplaces.

Ultimately, learning has to lead somewhere.

Workplace capability is about connecting learning with the knowledge, skills, judgement and confidence people need to perform effectively in real situations.

VET Skilled works with organisations to identify capability needs, knowledge or skill gaps and opportunities for development, then determine the most appropriate response. Sometimes that response will be formal training. Sometimes it may be targeted learning, workplace instruction, digital support, better resources or improvement to an existing training system.

That distinction matters because not every workplace problem is a training problem, and adding another course is not automatically the solution.

Our approach considers the work itself: what people are expected to do, what information and resources they need, where problems are occurring, what good performance looks like and what may be preventing it.

Solutions can then be developed around the actual need — from workplace learning and skills development through to structured programs, induction, technical training, supervisor development and broader workforce capability initiatives.

The goal is not training for training's sake. It is to create learning and development that benefits the individual, supports effective performance and strengthens the capability of the organisation.
